Self Learning  The McCrindle article, “ The Changing Age of Self Learning ” emphasizes that the digital era has completely changed how people learn on their own. What stood out to me in this article is that the pursuit of knowledge is not confined to the young or the tech-savvy. Instead, self-learning has become a universal endeavor, cutting across generations, and bridging the digital divide. Online platforms, like YouTube tutorials, podcasts, and e-books have made information accessible to anyone with an internet connection. After becoming a new homeowner recently, I've relied on YouTube tutorials for assistance with home upgrades. I'm pleased to say that I've acquired numerous skills and saved money by tackling these projects on my own. In today's interconnected world, knowledge-sharing happens between different age groups. I enjoy learning about new online applications from my teenage and college-aged children. At the same time, I find myself helping my parents navi...

Active Learning

Beyond Passive Learning Traditional methods of passive learning are no longer enough to equip us for the challenges of today, active learning offers a dynamic alternative to learning. In the world of education, active learning stands as a transformative approach to the acquisition of knowledge. It involves students actively participating in the learning process rather than passively absorbing information. Active learning is a versatile concept that can be applied across various disciplines. Whether you're studying history, science, mathematics, or the arts, there's a place for active learning techniques. These techniques come in many forms, encompassing activities that encourage students to write, engage in discussions, solve problems, or engage in thoughtful reflection. This approach can empower students to become more effective and enthusiastic learners. My Digital Presence

Embracing the Digital Age In a time when technology often dominates our lives, I reflect on how our engagement with digital resources has evolved over time. Back in the 1990s, digital tools were mostly used for reading things online, like websites with information. We didn't really do much else. In the 2000s, we started using digital tools to do more. We could chat with people and share photos on social media. Nowadays, we use digital tools for all sorts of things. It’s a lot more interactive. We can watch videos, read books online, take online courses, and even create our own content. Visitor or Resident I had not come across the Visitor vs. Resident concept before starting this assignment. David White and his Visitor vs. Resident idea came from a response to Marc Prensky’s Digital Native/Digital Immigrant view. Visitors and Residents is a simple way of describing the range of ways individuals can engage with the Web. Visitors see the internet as a tool for a specific pur...

Trends in Ed Tech

In the world of education, new and creative ways of teaching are always coming up to help students get ready for the real world. Project-Based Learning or PBL is a dynamic classroom approach in which students actively explore real-world problems and challenges. It's a way of teaching where students get to work on hands-on projects that help them learn about difficult things in a more fun and practical way.  Project-Based Learning (PBL) is considered a great teaching approach for several reasons, as it offers numerous benefits to both students and educators: Engagement : PBL makes learning more engaging and meaningful for students. Relevance : PBL connects classroom learning to the real world. Critical Thinking : PBL encourages critical thinking and problem-solving. Collaboration : PBL promotes teamwork and collaboration. Communication Skills : Through presentations, discussions, and project reports, students develop strong communication skills, both written and oral....

SAMR Model

In today's classroom environment, technology has evolved from a commodity to a need. Making effective use of educational technology has now become an essential teaching skill. The use of technology in the classroom allows us to adapt, assist, and improve the process of active learning. However, the growing number of technological possibilities can make the selection and integration of classroom technology complex and difficult. The SAMR approach can assist educators in this regard.  The SAMR Model Source: EdTech The SAMR model is a framework designed to guide educators in effectively integrating technology into the classroom. SAMR stands for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition, representing four levels of technology use in education: Substitution : At this level, technology is used as a direct substitute for traditional tools or methods without significant changes in the learning process. Augmentation : Technology enhances the learning experience, p...
