Digital Duty As teachers, we juggle various roles, including that of internet guardians. Technology has become an integral part of our classrooms, with students carrying laptops and often sneaking a peek at their phones, despite the rules against it. In this online world, Go Guardian has become my trusted ally, helping me keep tabs on what students are up to online. It's not uncommon for students to venture into non-approved online sites, even though some sites are blocked by school settings. They're quite adept at circumventing these safety measures, presenting us with the ongoing challenge of ensuring their online safety while simultaneously using online platforms to enrich their learning experiences. Keeping our students safe demands constant attention, along with ensuring compliance with laws and regulations that pertain to our students when they are online, such as the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (...

Safeguarding Your Online Footprint

Image
The New Ink In today's world of screens and keyboards, what we do online parallels with getting a tattoo, leaving our mark on the internet canvas, just like a real tattoo, it stays with us. Our online footprint tells a story about who we are, what we do, and how we interact in the digital world. As someone who values privacy, I've been conscious of the implications of my digital tattoo and have made efforts to manage it thoughtfully. Privacy Check When I initially joined Facebook to connect with family, particularly those abroad, it felt natural to share moments of my life. However, over time, I became increasingly aware of the potential privacy risks associated with social media platforms. The realization that my friends list and online activities were accessible to the public prompted me to reassess my approach to social media. I made a deliberate decision to minimize my social media presence by removing previous posts and limiting my online activity. While this decision wasn...

Beyond the Screen: Understanding Privacy

Image
Understanding Privacy The world has changed since my childhood, it seems like everything's gone digital. Just recently, my father needed to renew his driver's license, and I found myself navigating through the online system to schedule an appointment. Providing his driver's license number and date of birth was a requisite step in securing the appointment. In today's online world, privacy matters more than ever. We're constantly bombarded with requests for personal information, whether it's through apps, websites, or even our own devices. Despite our concerns about data privacy, many of us still readily hand over our personal information in exchange for convenience or access to essential services, much like I did when scheduling my dad's license renewal appointment. Ongoing Life-Long Learning

The Role of PLNs in My Story In this video , Dr. Trust talks about how Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) support the professional growth of educators. The area I most identify with is cognitive growth. Exploring cognitive development can help us discover new teaching methods and useful tools to improve our classroom practices, ultimately improving our effectiveness as teachers. Additionally, it can prompt critical reflection on our teaching approaches, which is essential for professional growth. Participating in PLNs p rovides opportunities akin to observing diverse classrooms. By observing and learning from the practices of our peers, we continuously refine our own teaching methods, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of our classrooms. Personality Tests The first personality test I took was the Five Factor Test .  This test measures the five key traits of human personality: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. After taki...
